Copier Repair & Service

Copier Repair Across NYC and Long Island

Sharp copiers and printers, HP printers, and Canon large format plotters. We take emergency calls whether or not you have a service contract with us, and whether or not we sold you the machine.

When a copier goes down, the only question that matters is how fast somebody competent can be standing in front of it. Our on-site average across NYC and Long Island is four hours, and our help desk answers in about 90 seconds — because a share of these calls get solved on the phone without anyone needing to drive anywhere.

What we service

Three manufacturers, across office and wide-format equipment. You do not need to be an existing customer, and we did not need to have sold you the device.

Sharp

Copiers and multifunction printers across the BP and MX ranges, desktop through production. As a Sharp Platinum Dealer we carry the parts and the factory training, and our technicians work on these every day.

HP

Office printers. Useful if your floor runs a mixed fleet — plenty of offices have Sharp copiers and HP printers at the desk, and one provider for both means one number to call.

Canon

Large format plotters, including the imagePROGRAF range. If you are an architecture, engineering or construction firm with a plotter down mid-deadline, this is the call to make — and all contact runs through RDI, not a manufacturer queue.

No contract? Still call.

We accept emergency service calls from businesses that have no agreement with us. A lot of dealers will only touch machines on their own contracts, which is how offices end up waiting days with a dead copier. Tell us the make, model and what it is doing, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help and what it will cost.

Have these ready when you call

Five answers turn a diagnostic conversation into a dispatch with the right part already on the van.

  • Make and model — on the front of the machine or in the panel’s device information screen.
  • Serial number — usually on a sticker behind the front door or on the back panel.
  • The exact error code, photographed rather than paraphrased. “It says there’s an error” and the actual code lead to completely different first steps.
  • Which functions still work — does it copy? Print? Scan? That alone narrows a lot.
  • When it started and what changed — new paper, a move, a network change, a firmware update.

Sometimes it isn’t the copier

A meaningful share of what gets reported as a copier fault is a network, directory or mail platform problem wearing a copier costume. Scanning stops after a password change. The device shows offline because its IP address moved. It fails for two people and nobody else.

Here is a free test before you call anyone: make a copy at the device. Copying uses the scanner and the print engine and no network at all. If the copy comes out clean, the machine is mechanically healthy and you have a connection or configuration problem. If it jams, streaks or shows lines, it’s mechanical and needs a technician.

Because RDI runs managed IT alongside the copier business, we can look at the firewall, the switch and the device in the same call instead of handing you between two vendors. Our guide to telling a printer problem from a network problem walks through the full symptom list.

Per-call service, or a service agreement

An emergency call is quoted on its own, with the diagnosis and the cost explained before any work happens. That’s the right answer for a one-off failure on a machine you otherwise have no trouble with.

If the same device keeps failing, or you’re managing several, a service agreement is usually cheaper and considerably less stressful. An RDI service contract covers all parts, all labor, all service and all supplies, with paper and staples the only exclusions — no separate wear-items category, no trip charges, no preventive maintenance billing. If supplies and monitoring are the part you want to stop thinking about, that’s managed print services.

Where we cover

We dispatch from two offices, which is what keeps the four-hour average honest across a wide territory. Our Ronkonkoma office covers Nassau and Suffolk, and our Midtown Manhattan office covers all five boroughs, including the Bronx. Technicians are RDI employees, not subcontractors.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair copiers you didn’t sell?

Yes. We service Sharp copiers and printers, HP printers, and Canon large format plotters, regardless of who supplied them, and regardless of whether you hold a contract with us. Call with the make, model and the error you’re seeing and we’ll tell you straight away whether we can help.

How fast can a technician get here?

Our on-site average across NYC and Long Island is four hours. We dispatch from Ronkonkoma for Nassau and Suffolk and from Midtown Manhattan for the five boroughs. Our help desk answers in about 90 seconds, and some faults are resolved on that call without a visit at all.

Which brands do you service?

Sharp, HP and Canon. That covers Sharp BP and MX copiers and multifunction printers, HP office printers, and Canon large format plotters including the imagePROGRAF range. For Canon plotters all contact runs through RDI rather than a manufacturer support queue.

My copier keeps jamming. Is it broken?

Check the paper before the machine. A new ream from a different supplier, paper stored somewhere humid, or heavier stock loaded in a tray that isn’t set for it will all cause jams that look like a hardware fault. If the paper hasn’t changed and jams repeat from the same tray or the document feeder, it’s mechanical and needs service.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace an older copier?

It depends on the device’s age against its rated monthly volume, how often it’s failing, and whether parts are still readily available. We’ll tell you when a machine is worth repairing and when it isn’t — including when the honest answer is that a repair buys you another year and that’s the right call.

Do I need a service contract to get help?

No. We take emergency calls without one, quoted per visit with the cost explained before work begins. A contract makes sense if a device keeps failing or you’re managing several — an RDI service agreement covers all parts, labor, service and supplies, with paper and staples the only exclusions.
